Second Life: How to View Video and Adjust Audio

(for instructions on creating an avatar, see next page)

Before the event:

1.  Make sure your QuickTime application is the most up-to-date version possible.

2.  Log in to SL and go to the Edit menu. Select Preferences\Audio & Video and verify that your Streaming Preferences are both checked.  Clicking the box next to "Automatically play media," means that wherever you go media will play automatically.

3.  You will need to wear a headset or have computer speakers in order to hear the audio. Be sure you know how to work your headset, and that your headset is recognized in the Device Settings in Second Life (Edit\Preferences\Voice Chat\Device Settings).

4.  Be aware that using a wireless connection, particularly if a number of other users are on your network, can impact your ability to play streaming media.

At the event:

To watch video in SL, you will need to click on the Play button at the bottom of your screen , to the right of the little movie camera icon. The movie camera icon is above the "Mini-map" button.

To adjust the audio, click the arrow to the right of the speaker icon at the bottom of the screen  (next to the Movie camera settings), and check to be sure that the Media setting is all the way to the right. This is as loud as it gets.

Unless otherwise stated, please ask questions by clicking on Local Chat at the bottom left of the screen and typing them in.
